Our first graders learned how to draw and combine primitive shapes like squares, rectangles, and triangles to design robotic figures. After sketching their robots with pencil, they used white colored pencils on black paper to finish their drawing.
We then scanned the drawings and used Adobe Illustrator to trace them into digital files so we could then send them to the laser cutter. We engraved and cut the tags out of eighth inch black acrylic and eighth inch birch plywood. Needless to say, the first graders thought their tags were, "super cool!"
